I sat down this morning for a little spinning wheel time. My mom fell and broke her hip a few days ago, and it is my version of prayer…
On the bobbin, I had all the samples we got in the PLY Away goodie bag, and as I finished them, I added little bits of fluff that were sitting on the side table.I still don’t have a full bobbin, and it is one of the jumbos, so I am not sure if it will get filled or not. I decided to do a little organising and tidying of the studio shelves and bins and see what might be further added to this bobbin.
Do you see that bit of red right in the middle of the bobbin? It’s partly covered by some pink, but under the pink is a nice little stretch of deep red/burgundy. It’s definitely among the oldest fiber in my stash…my first fiber purchase, long before I was a spinner.
In October 2006, we went to Taos Sheep and Wool Festival for the first time, and while we were there we visited Taos Sunflower, a yarn store since closed, sadly. It was really a great shop and I got some lovely yarns there. Then I saw this fibery stuff and they showed the steps for making felted soaps and I thought that might be fun, so I got some fiber.
Before it could get put away, Nola found it and had a little fiber party. I might have gotten a little hysterical. Although I couldn’t see it at the time, it was a ridiculous thing to get upset over. When I came across that little wad of fiber today, I knew in an instant that is was the fiber Nola had attacked 10 years ago, and I sat and had a nice little moment thinking of her fondly…we miss her little aggravating MinPin shenanigans…
So then I decided that Nola’s Miscief is the perfect name for this mixed up collection of fluff that’s becoming yarn.
